Oh how I love a big sporting event and they don’t get too much bigger than a “Games”.
Today we headed down the M1 for our first foray at the Gold Coast Comm Games. Having watched the opening few days from the comfort of the couch it was time to get amongst it at the beach volleyball. Here’s what we discovered:
- The traffic and public transport was NOT the nightmare we and many expected. We had no problems with the park and ride facility to the venue and plenty of buses got the crowds out of the venue without too much wait. The Comm Game app is great – especially the journey planner. Highly recommend to those heading to the games.
- Beach Volleyball is one great big party! Great atmosphere, great music (by the DJ in the lifeguard tower) and great entertainment in and around the venue. And that’s before the games even start. And an Aussie win topped the session off.
- Heaps going on at Broadbeach as part of the concurrent Festival – great for a wander with the kids and lunch or a cool beverage while people watching.
I am surprised by the number of friends who have made their way to a session or two at the games – from Cairns, Toowomba, Sydney and Brisbane. It seems like the Games are catching the interest of Aussies near and far.
We had an awesome day and are looking forward to heading back next week to catch the track & field and the rugby 7s. For now, time to settle into the couch for the night’s viewing….
